Astrotourism

With more than 300 clear days a year, and unique conditions of low light pollution, Vicuña is the ideal place for astronomical observation.

In its extensive territory there are 4 scientific observatories of high value for research into the cosmos, and more than 15 astrotourism services with their own identity.
Visit the Cerro Mamalluca Observatory, the first astrotourism observatory in Chile and the only one that has its own planetarium in the north of the country.
In 2023, Vicuña hosted the 1st “World Astrotourism Summit”, thus reinforcing its position as the “World Capital of Astronomy”.

International recognition as an astrotourism destination helps promote awareness of the importance of protecting our night skies for future generations.
